Discussion about
Hi everyone, I am looking to buy an apartment on upper west side and like a unit around 97 and west end. Not very familiar with the area above 96 on UWS. I will appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

The area is fine, though you get a bit of bus noise and some traffic from the highway access at 96th. Given the choice, I'd rather be a block or two farther north, to get off that hill and away from 96th.

Among the buildings on that corner, I think 771 is the most interesting. 755 is OK - just take the Candela brand with a grain of salt because it's one of his lesser efforts. 760 is nice on high floors if you don't need a lot of space.

West81st, any guess what 755 WEA, Apt. 8A closes at? I looked at it and liked it other than the amount of work that would need to go into it, after factoring in the asking price and cost to renovate.

Pleasant area with - like the rest of the Upper West Side - a lot of mediocre restaurants. As West 81 notes, a louder neighborhood than you'd think. The park is great.

tough corner... west end ave gets lovely at 100th street. 95 to 99th streets are lesser than.

Great area...like others have intimated here, area is A-/B+ rather than A location of mid 80's or 100's. But easy access to Westside Highway and subway is nice bonus.

looked in this area. Lots of SROs in the immediate area, and quite a few shady folks hanging out at night

West End and Riverside and side streets above about 100th St are beautiful and quiet. At the particular corner of 97th and West End you will see/hear a lot of traffic rounding the corner; and as others say it is on a downhill slope close to very busy W. 96th St. Great for the express train and crosstown bus though.
