I wonder if others are in the same boat? The results from GE today were icing on the cake.
I wonder if NY real estate follow the stock market... Could you imagine? One person told me, as the stock market goes, goes Manhattan real estate...

I feel your pain...just think how much lower it will get when President Obama takes office.
My portfolio is actually up 11% since february. I avoided the stock market bubble mentality and pulled out last year when the subprime mess hit. I got back in less than two months ago. Too bad all you high bidders are having your day of reckoning.
2008 is great, lot of stocks on sale.
I got out last year just in time too. I knew all these youngins were sending the market way too high with their lack of worldly experience and pure arrogance. Came back on the VISA ipo at 58.00. Maybe I should dump that too and quit while I'm ahead.
when you got out of the market where did you put your money???
maxny- I got out 10/16/08 and still out. Just waiting until I feel comfortable. Good for you 11% that's great.
sorry-10/16/07
feel your pain, there are a lot of us who do. just under 50% of my wealth is tied up in two banks. originated through unvested bonuses which either vest over 4 years or progressive to 3 years. assumulating for a few years. one is down over 50% the over just over 20%. i look at them now as tax write offs because i dont expect them to improve by the time i need the money. heartwrenching to realize the retrospective pay has effectively been cut in half. the one good thing is i am fortunate enough not to be at a bank which fell 95%. there are a lot of us who are significantly poorer this year. not by choice.
on the positive side, the portion of my portfolio i can control is doing well. so i wont open a window just yet. julia, i generally find the cheapest way to hedge the risks i see rather than totall pulling out of the market. part of my objective is to minimize cost, tax and feeding my broker.
