Real Property Office - Historical Sales Info

We are looking to buy an apartment on the UWS in the next 6 months. We would like to be able to do our homework before/during the contract signing. Most specifically, we would like to be able to find information about the sales in a particular building and of that particular apartment. What is the best source of this information? Is there a city office where this is available? Can it be found online?

try propertyshark.com and do a google for ACRIS thats the NYC records internet search engine
