fuel surcharge??

Discussion about

Is it "normal" (or, at least, not red-flag raising) to have what is listed as an "oil surcharge" or "fuel surcharge" tacked on to the monthly payment in a small pre-war coop building? What price range is normal? Is $170 eyebrow-raising?

it used to be normal when oil was priced high 2006-8, but most boards have adjusted the maintenance to cover it. as for the amount, there's not enough information to know (size of apartment, building, maintenance)

Building is around 40 units. Generous 1-bedroom.

Any reason for concern WHY this surcharge would NOT have been dissolved into the maintenance by now? Does such a thing EVER go away entirely?

Nothing abnormal. Consider it a way of a coop avoiding calling a common charge increase an increase. Bigger question is why the building continues to use oil and not natural gas which unlike oil is trading at record lows.
