Discussion about
My lease expires at the end of this month and I was told by the management company that I am going on a month to month lease after my current lease expires. I have lived at this unit for 2 years without incident. I have not been told why I am not getting the standard 1 year lease renewal. I have asked to receive a one year lease and am waiting on an answer. I've asked for rationale on this and haven't heard back. I don't know how common this situation is but something doesn't make sense. Thoughts anyone?

Is the building for sale or recently sold?

Unless you're in a protected class of tenant, you don't have a lot of protections, and you are not owed an explanation or rationale.

What is the building?

You deserve an explanation no matter what, they should be courteous to you.

She may "deserve" an explanation, but she is not necessarily entitled to one.

The problem with management companies is that you're just one of ten thousand tenants on their spreadsheet. They really don't care.

Who said anything about the owner being a "deadbeat"?

And who said anything about me being "anti-renter"?

I'm merely pointing out the legal obligations (or lack thereof) in this instance.

Not this owner being a deadbeat, but the owners who are in over their head by buying too much apartment and too much mortgage, and then blaming the bank when they run into trouble.

This is a thread about RENTING.

No "owners" here.

NYCMatt, why are you disavowing your prior support of a deadbeat owner? Was it because an evil bank was involved? :(
