Wow!! A smallish pile of garbage?? In NYC?? You NEVER see anything like that anywhere in NY!

[I now officially call this the "I will bitch about shit that happens everywhere but I have nothing better to do" blog.]

deanc: What's in the garbage bags?

Take video and photos of the shit, send video/photos to HBO executive office and copy to:
NYC Sanitation Dept.,
ABC Eyewitness News,
New York Post editors and
New York Magazine.
HBO productions are responsible for removing all refuse associated with their filming, at each location.

@Truth,

Its just the catering refuse, I wouldn't mind if they sorted out the cardboard recycling etc and left it neatly but they just piled it up and half on the road.

@Sonya, not sure if it's the angle but this pile is about 10ft x 10ft x 3ft and yes I did take photos of the truck earlier in the day, it belongs to Henrys International Cuisine and of course there isn't an email address on the NYC filming office, only a twitter/facebook link so have posted it but you know they aren't going to do anything about HBO so will probably never hear anything back.

Mr. Dean Collins,
Firstly, I must apologize for my general comments about your blog. It does not only contain bitchy comments... only this one seems to be, but the others seem to cover a wide and varied number of topics.

Still, I must continue to classify this as a very typical, attention-grabbing case of NIMBY. You have not only posted about this on your blog, but then felt you needed to make an ADDITIONAL mention of this on a real-estate board. You didn't ask for help or advice, all you did was mention that Boardwalk Empire was filming in your neighborhood (something most Brooklyn residents have experienced). What else did you mention? Garbage. Something that exists everywhere, even in the incredible size that you mention -- which, I should point out, is smaller than any standard dumpster, which are scattered around Brooklyn Heights like rats. Tell me, do you post on your blog and complain to the agencies when you see a dumpster close to you? After all, they are, by any stretch, more of a nuisance... They take up parking, they are loud when things are dropped/thrown into them, they require special hauling to deliver and take away. Your problem, in contrast, will be picked up and not even a thought within less a couple of days (depending on your standard garbage day pickup). On top of all this, that is probably the cleanest looking garbage I've ever seen... Want to be disgusted? Go to midtown Manhattan or other parts of Brooklyn to see sopping garbage juice and rotten food overflowing onto the street. Your response? "Not in my back yard!"

Honestly, it seems like you wanted to mention that BE was filming by you,, (and maybe also that this pile of neatly stacked trash is your largest headache of late).

If the company was involved in a NY shoot, chances are better than excellent that they're based anywhere but NY ... New Jersey, Pennsylvania, even Georgia.

deanc:
HBO craft-service is required to pack up their refuse and take it away with them at the end of the day/night's filming.

The same applies to all other film/t.v. productions in N.Y.C.

Your household garbage is to be left at the curb only on the Sanitation Dept. garbage pick-up days.
The same goes for leaving out cardboard boxes, which need to be cut and tied together, on whatever the recycling pick-up day is, on your block.

HBO and/or any other filming production company are not exempt from N.Y.C. Dept.of Sanitation rules.

@Tomnevers, yeh its been fixed but google seems to be taking their sweet ass time updating the block.

Basically I run a startup http://www.LiveFanChat.com and we use an ad network called OpenX to serve ads on our sites eg LiveBaseballChat/LiveFootballChat/LiveNascarChat.com etc etc

Basically OpenX got hacked and started serving malware ads on Saturday midday. I use the same adserver to serve ads to my personal blog and a few other personal projects eg www.myTblock.com etc

Anyway long story short.....we turned off the ad serving on Saturday, updated malware.org that the problem was fixed, they checked on Sunday and cleared it......chrome still hasn't removed the alerts.

Not much else I can do about it until they get around to noticing the ad network has been removed.

Of course it was. Aren't you glad you made that huge stink about it?

(and by the way, EVERYONE is supposed to dispose of refuse in the proper way. It is not just production companies. So now we can all go around and every time we see a garbage bag on the sidewalk placed there improperly, we can all make a stink, right?).
First time in NYC, people? Never lived here during the mid-80s?

Only on streeteasy:
deanc is considered to be complaining without reason about the HBO production craft-service garbage left outside his residence.

Would you like to see them leave a pile of garbage in front of your residence at the edge of Gotham, greensdale?

Is deanc now no longer allowed to discuss another RE topic on streeteasy discussion boards?

you've introduced the nail to the forehead. ;)

("Oh! My life is so difficult, being surrounded by all of these Hollywood productions!"). I do like the coinage "humblebrag" though. we can only imagine how Dean Collins' life is now, how he's holding up, 12 days after that awful trash incident that happens SO often to him....

Sorry, but I really fail to see what's supposed to be so glamorous about the floating factory of the dreary manufacturing business that is "Hollywood". Back lots in the San Fernando Valley exist for a reason, you know. Nobody wants to look at the plant and its warehouses.

alanhart,
There's nothing glamorous. Which begs the question, why did Dean mention it in the first place? Simply to talk about garbage? That was picked up the next day as usual?

I bet if Dean knew how commonplace filming in NYC was, that MANY MANY MANY people are familiar with Broadway Empire, Law and Order, Gossip Girl, Nurse Jackie, Royal Pains, Girls, Flight of the Conchords, Blue Blood's, etc., etc., along with the countless movies and commericials, being filmed in THEIR neighborhoods as well, sometimes even being paid to have them film on their property, he wouldn't have felt the need to mention... yes: a pile of trash.

Who said I didn't know that? Please provide proof that I didn't know this, or ever said the contrary.

[In fact, an *attentive* reading of the thread by an actually *intelligent* person would show that I already mentioned how production companies, like ALL companies -- whether they be office, scrap yard, retail store, street vendor, or whatever -- must dispose of their trash in the appropriate way. Now, let's all make a fuss over those, shall we? Or don't you ever see any other trash in the street?]

The Song of Silly Sonya:
"Who said I didn't know that? Please provide proof..."

Silly Sonya doesn't have "attentive" reading skills and obviously isn't an "intelligent person".

The OP topic of this discussion is the production company's craft service trash, sloppily left outside the home of deanc.
Not: "let's all make a fuss over those" who dispose of "any other trash in the street".

Awww, Truth, no amount of "The OP topic of this discussion ramble ramble..." is going to get you out of this one!

Please show us how I wasn't "attentive" and "obviously isn't an "intelligent person"." You weren't able to come up with anything the last time you posted in this thread, so put up or shut up about this one.

(slowly now, just for you: I'm not the one making a fuss over the trash. Read ^^up^^ to find out who is).

once again with the Song Of Silly Sonya: "Put up or shut up"...

I don't need to "get out of this one." As if you are a force to be reckoned with.
You, in your usual Song Of Silly Sonya, accused me of not being "attentive" and "an intelligent person".

"Put" it back "up" your tukis and then "shut up".
Go nitwit, go! I don't take orders from anybody and certainly not from you.

Again, an intelligent person would read and understand each post in the thread. Be careful, Truth, I never said you were or werent anything. That's what you did in your next post about me, actually.

Silly Sonya has her own "zingers".

Only she can "read and understand each post in this thread."

She threatens me: "Be careful, Truth".
Be careful of what, Sonya?
"Put" it back "up" your butt. "Keep embarrassing yourself" when it drops back out again.
"MANY MANY MANY people" are familiar with your hole.
Whatever brain you have is lost in the "hilarity" of your hole.

Now, you and greensdale can continue to discuss.
