Are you asking for a reason or just trying to cause trouble?

why not offer your meaningful comment first, if you have any. There must be a reason for the question.

I not work for and have not done business with SHVO, or Core, nor do I work for any real estate firm, developer or property owner, nor am I one or two degrees separated from anyone who would fit in to any one of those categories.

jmcbyr8, if you search SHVO at curbed.com you will find 165 entries.

verain, I'm not picking a fight here, but 1 or 2 degrees of separation means you may be married to a broker, or that your sister is married to a broker and any deal he seals, regardless of the amount of sleaze involved (maybe none, maybe a lot), puts food on the table for your beloved nieces and nephews. I appreciate you admitting your connection, but that puts you awfully close.

I said I was neither directly nor one or two degrees separated from anyone in the industry. Please reread what I wrote.
Frankly, I can't think of anything other than a former client's brother's father in law who is a developer and his son who is a broker (not at SHVO). If I racked my brain, may come up with something else.

Verain, quite a noble cause you have embarked on, albeit a difficult one. Defending the rights of sleazy brokers everywhere! Out of curiosity, are you a defense attorney or do you have a cape and special powers?

Kind of reminds me of Nathan Turm from SNL. Couldn't find an original clip, but here's a more recent one. Remember this guy?

Although Jade is a magnificent building, I was unable to understand what has transpired there:
unit 9B sold on 2/12/08 for $800K then sold again on 4/4/08 for $880K and now its on the market again at $950K

Not for nothing but this is a lot of conversation not to answer a simple question.

Also jmcbyr8, a simple "I'm looking at ___ building that they are representing" or "I want to go work for them" would have helped shorten this conversation too.

Anyway, I've had first hand experiences with Shvo and a number of other NYC brokerage firms. They're a little on the snootier side than most but no more "sleazy" or "shady" (tell you one thing and do the other, etc) than some others I have dealt with. Think Elliman, with less grit, fewer brokers and better clothes. Like all firms, some of their brokers are better than others.

the quality of discussion boards has gone down dramatically! because of a bunch of idiots, any potentially interesting conversation turns into a shit show. The streeteasy.com webmaster should certainly do something to take care of that. I would enjoy a little more substance and a little less stupidity especially coming from people who know nothing about real estate

qqqwww1- meaningful input with added value would suffice. your thoughts on the company is quite juvenile. "snooty, shady, better clothes" or "some brokers are better than others" apparently this is what is meant by the things that separate a man from a boy and/or woman from a girl. i would have expected comments such as shvo has access to exclusive listings and are affililated with high end and celebrity designers, etc.

jmcbyr8 - Sorry to disappoint with my juvenile response. My response might have been better thought out if I had any clue why you were asking the question or what exactly you wanted to know besides, "any opinions on the company".

Anyway, good luck on your search for meaningful input.

qqqwww1 perhaps before you comment you may want to consider that this is a forum to share thoughts on real estate. its just a thought

I had an experience with a SHVO broker at an open house advertised as a loft with 20 foot ceilings. When I went to see it, the ceilings were very high - probably 13 or 14 feet so I asked the broker (initials JG) why they are advertising it as 20 foot ceilings. He said they were 20 foot and since I didnt have a tape measure I said given that I am six foot tall, these ceilings need to be almost three times my hight which they obviously were not. He kept saying that his engineer measured them and that I was wrong. At that point I turned around and walked out. This is a comment on one particular broker and not on the entire firm other then they allowed him to advertise improper info on their site! Maybe this is a comment on the firm as a whole.

But it is an interesting experience nontheless, and goes to show that if you do your diligence responsibly as if you are spending a lot of money, then it doesn't matter what the seller's broker says ... you'll find the truth on your own.

And I see 245 10th unit 2W is in contract. A unit I briefly considered some time ago. As cool as the terrace was off the highline, I thought the gas station on the opposite side was equally bad.
But a new great wall of china and losing your sunlight IS actually worse.

245 10th unit 2W
I always viewed this apartment as an exhibitionist's dream.
I would walk by on the highline and wonder who, in their right mind, would purchase this place?
You could make a small fortune selling snacks over the rail and still work from home.

Key paragraph;

"But when the market began to stumble, so did Mr. Shvo. Sales languished at 20 Pine, despite a sales office that he kept open 24 hours a day, and Mr. Shvo was soon replaced. The building did not sell out until earlier this year — some seven years after its inauguration. Mr. Shvo was replaced on other projects and was named in lawsuits"

Now that Im sure all lawsuits are settled, game back on and fleece again.
Just like the banks......wash, rinse.......repeat.

Falco, when I first looked at it, the highline wasnt really open yet and hadnt realized just how many people would be on it at any and every given moment.

When I walked by it last spring, I immediately thought of that Ray Bradbury story with humans as zoo exhibits.
