I've had a garage in Brooklyn for years -- super cheap. But, it's time to find one closer to home (east 60s). I've had a garage in Brooklyn for years -- super cheap. But, it's time to find one closer to home (east 60s). I've been walking around the nabe, comparing prices based on the posted prices, and talking to the attendants. In addition to the sticker shock (+18%!), what I'm being quoted by the attendants is rarely the posted price (both lower and higher). Many of them say to come by during the week (problem: that's when I'm working, and am not around). Any strategies for negotiating a price? Any success in getting good prices from the big guys (Icon, Central Parking)? How much off the posted price should I expect? What are thoughts about the tradeoffs: the garage next to my building has a posted price of $650/mo, the one 1/2 mile away east is half the price (and the walk back looks like it could be nasty late at night). I use the car 1x/week max. [less]
Search online and fill out their forms,
e.g. http://nyc.bestparking.com/
or the individual online sites of the parking companies - Central Parking, Icon, etc.
Also, in C0lumbia C0unty, you can park in the corn field for free.
Dont you have any friends you can discuss this with?

Hi,
I agree with BestParking as a tool, but I prefer the Android/iPhone app and think it works better than the actual website.
We had luck calling the major companies 'corporate' numbers. They were able to get us prices that were far far less then the advertised stickers.. or what walking up was yielding. Ended up with at a major GMC garage on 2nd in the 80's for under $300 including taxes (NYC resident exemption applied though).
Don't even consider parking your car in an attended garage.
I wouldn't use anything other than an indoor, attended garage, unless it was secured and self-serve (haven't found one in the target neighborhood yet). Yes, the attendants have dinged & scratched the car over the years, but, hey, it's just a car. With the car in a garage, I can leave stuff (boxes, etc) in the car and worry less about it being broken into or stolen than if it were on the street, and I don't have to move it all the time.
