Moss, a professor of urban policy and planning at New York University. “Trinity has been either very wise or very prudent, but they have let the market mature around them, and now they are ready to take advantage of it.” The church, which calls itself “one of the largest landowners in Manhattan,” has also been building an equity investment portfolio that was worth about $160 million in 2011. And the value of Trinity’s real estate holdings is expected to grow because rezoning of much of the church’s land will allow up to 3,200 new residential units, with the first large project planned for Duarte Square on Canal Street. That's been true for decades, if not longer.
Since Queen Anne.
I suspect not. For a good long time after Queen Anne, large farm holdings and even family-owned real estate operations (Astors, Beekmans, et cetera) probably outshined the Church.
When are they going to disinter everyone at their cemeteries and redevelop the land? [Purgie, insert comment.]
Their cemeteries are in Wash Hts.
No, Harlem, which is always just about to gentrify, really it is ... 155th Street divides, and it's on the south side ... dangerous place, even for the dead.
And St Michael's Episcopal on the Upper West Side owns the 88-acre St. Michael's Cemetery in NW Queens, a prime redevelopment site if ever there was one, very convenient to arterial highways.
NYU itself is among the largest landowners in Manhattan

I think we've successfully broken Catguy. He's officially in the same crazy category as Jason10006, C0lumbiaC0unty, and CrazyRiccardo65.
do you put a notch in your belt or does it go somewhere else?
my belt goes around my waist.
Why do you think Catboy is broken? I can't read what he wrote, because I have him on ignore.
But anyway, none of those three is crazy. jason10006 is spectral, columbiacounty is a perfect gentleman, and RiccardU65 is a good solid troll.
You think?
Sorry, A.H. - I didn't see this until now - & congratulations on your ungraying! That "Just for SE Posters" works wonders.
One alternative would be to donate the disinterred to The Museum of Sex, for their upcoming "Necrophilia in New Amsterdam" exhibit.
Apparently even Peter Stuvyesant liked to pop open a cold one once in a while.
Thanks I have found this whole area fascinating. They ought to develop Hudson Square for residential.
