Landlord took extra month in ACH debit help pls!

Call your former landlord and discuss it before you panic.

it's my opinion that while you're talking to your landlord, you should also inform the bank in writing that you are no longer a tenant and the bank should not debit your account next month. I would send a copy to the landlord and would send both letters as certified mail with return receipts.

I'm no fan of ACH.

Why dont you call: the landlord, the bank, your attorney, or your therapist, rather than post on a board filled with people who do not know anything?

ACH transfers are exactly the same as writing a check --- yes, they go through the exact same bank clearance process, no difference whatsoever --- but ACH transfers should always be a "push", rather than a "pull".

People should agree to ACH transfers only if they are pushes, i.e. the account holder instigates the transfer. People should avoid ACH transfers that are pulls, i.e. the automatic withdrawal of account holder's funds by the payee. Never a good idea. This goes for landlords, cable companies, electric companies, Saks, etc. If they don't give you a choice and insist on a "pull", then decline the option and write a check. If you have the option of a "push" (also called a one-time payment), there is nothing to fear, any more than there is anything to fear from writing a check.
