Discussion about
Pretty much shortening 2 wood cabinets as in cutting off the bottom section. Anyone had this done?
Sawing off the bottom of a cabinet is cheap, getting it to look right isn't.
What are you trying to accomplish? Is this in a kitchen? Do you want to preserve the toekick? Is there a counter? A backsplash? Are there adjacent cabinets? Doors or drawers?
It's hanging on the wall. Shortening it to make room for something else. Doors only.
only a good carpenter can answer this. It can be done and done well, and it can be botched.
Thanks for the useful post Catguy.
To do it right, the cabinet has to be pulled off the wall and taken to a shop. The cabinet box itself and the drawers all have to be shortened. The time required will vary based on the complexity of the box and the doors (frameless box and flat doors the cheapest, and moving up from there). Hard to imagine anybody in Manhattan doing it properly for less than $500.
flarf, of course it will be pulled down. But there's drawers, only the box and 2 flat doors. The time was given as more or less a week. The quote was around $200. I was trying to compare the quotes with people who had a similar thing done.
BIG CORRECTION: There's NO drawers.
