No problem, you're quite welcome!

Every good mother would understand the necessity of canceling mother day festivities. It's playoffs.

Every good Canadian mother. I don't care for the Hallmark holidays, but hockey wouldn't get the family off the hook if I wanted to play the Mother's Day card.

In the late 90s (when they were really good with Ewing, Oakley, Starks etc) a good friend of mine got tickets for a Knicks playoff game on Mother's Day. I convinced my beloved mother to exchange brunch plans for dinner which she did happily. What I didn't count on was several beers at the game and then going to the Niles bar across from the Garden for the remainder of the afternoon. I did manage to get home, change and meet my mother but I suspect she immediately that I was skunk drunk. If I recall we still managed to have a good meal and wine.

Still I would stay away from Mother's Day games if you have plans afterwords.

And this really does have nothing to do with real estate.

As I always try to teach people, the liver is just another muscle, and it needs to be exercised strenuously. I'm sure your mother was proud of you, and hopefully you let her have at least one glass worth of your bottle of wine. It being Mother's Day and all.

My mother never had a problem securing multiple glasses of wine, especially if it was really good and preferably purchased with outrageous restaurant mark ups. A lifelong non-drinker my mom became very fond of wine in her late 70s and 80s and she got her share! Mothers Day or not. First Mother's Day after I lost my Mom, I consoled myself (not very effectively) by realizing I was saving several hundred dollars not having to spring for flowers, dinner, transportation etc.

And even better they fired Torts who was useless beyond compare. Now if they could just get rid of Satehr they might be able to put together a not crap team.

How can you people and Canadians get even the least bit excited by a bunch of male Sonja Henies pushing a pre-Stone Age wooden plow around and hoping to smack a millstone to one side or the other? Does Labatts really have such high alcohol content?

Well Alan, it does not have the excitement of a baseball game, although I guess we will see this year what is more interesting to watch in July.

Definitely truth, but that is precisely the kind of dumb ass move that Sather would take. It is incredible that he continues to have a job.

alan, better than a tray of sidecars on the terrace. close, but still better. ottawa, this team is a few tweeks away from being a true cup contender. never liked sather, but he understands what it takes now given his fantastic failures earlier in his life as gm w the rangers.

i wouldnt discount messier in anything even though prevailing logic says no to him being hired.

rangersfan, I know this isn't the board to do this, but what tweaks? They probably have to buy out Richards at this point; McDonagh, Hagelin, and Stepan are due significant raises, and I assume they want to keep Clowe, who's a UFA. Not to mention Lundqvist, Callahan, and Kreider (to a lesser degree, obviously) will want extensions now. Nash's contract looks pretty bad right now too. Think you guys are in for pretty drastic changes with the new cap fast approaching.

prolly save some signigicant hits on the salary cap to buyout richards under the new cba which they should do at this point. although i still think he is a reasonable player he is being paid like a superstar. they should resign all the guys you mentioned and can probably do that at decent prices. lundquist will cost them but he deserves it just nothing beyond five more years. the tweaks would be to add some depth (defense) and valuable third and fourth liners who can be picked up without huge cap ramifications. they have some real promising young talent that will continue to mature. i wouldnt trade the core of this team for anyone.

They lost because they had no Stahl. Everytime Im watching a great "exchange" in the Rangers zone I go "who is that?" and it's always Marc Staal.

Ahart, it's at least a faster version of Soccer. I dont watch much regular season, it can get incredibly boring, but playoff hockey....nothing like it.

You wouldn't trade this core? What core? You have some solid D and a bunch of 2nd liners. If you buy out Richards, then the first line is the same one that led Columbus to the worst record in the NHL the last few years. I think the obvious thing is to buy out Richards, but I would wait one year because if you do you have no offense and will have to get used to losing games 2-1. WHo will you sign with the savings? Give him one year to turn things around and accept that he is overpaid, but that is what happens when you are a free agent.

Sather needs to go, he is terrible and has been for years and all of his moves are terrible. Brooklyn Islanders are on a much better trajectory and are loaded with youngsters. That is a real core that most teams would like to have.

Core: Lundquist, Callahan, Girardi, McDonaugh, Staal, Moore, Brassard, Hagelin, Stepan, Kreider. Except Lundquist, all guys under 30 who will only get better and better. THAT core, plus other guys on the roster that are key like Clowe and Nash. this team is a few tweaks from being elite. Ok?

I see you comment lots about NYC, your a noobie - know your place. and chris neil is the biggest cement head in the league....

Ah Rangersfan, why the need to make this personal? Insecure about your knowledge or just a twat? Funny thing is that they have RE all over the world, which might even provide someone with some perspective when you are discussing matters. But you seem very worldly so you likely knew that.

Now given that this thread is about hockey I hope you will grant me permission to continue.

So you think a guy who is second in hits and second in league in PIMs is useless? Seem to recall a lot of complaints about the loss of Prust and Dubinsky this year. And yes Rangers have solid D, but they are of same type of player. No offensive guy in the lot. Need to trade one for a goal scorer and pick up someone who can QB the PP (like Streit). They have some players, but need to fix the mix and you need a good GM who can do more than overpay for free agents (Holik, Drury, Gomez, Redden, Ricahrds) and I just don't think Sather is up to it. I would lover for the Rangers to have a decent team that can play entertaining hockey, so I don't get bored to death going to their games.

I will repeat, chris neil is a cement head. as for prust, HUGE loss but he is definitely not worth 2.5mm per and the only team willing to pay that crazy sum was les habitants. every true ranger fan loved the guy but still can't rationalize paying that much for him even with hindsight. liked dubinski too, but they had to give up something to get nash and jury is still out on that trade. look what is happening in the playoffs, elite scorers are hard to come by but their value diminishes this time of year when everyone picks up the pace and defense and goaltending ultimately wins the cup.

no big fan of sather, but i think he learned from those atrocious signings and actually was able to weasel out of some of them with some good trades.

twat comment is very canadien, come back when you can do better, eh?!

Sure, but highly unlikely they can afford to keep all those guys. Probably impossible actually. Take a look: http://capgeek.com/rangers/

Don't get the hate of Neil. He is annoying to other teams, but he is not dirty. Has never once been suspended through his long career.

Looking at cap geek just reinforces how useless Sather is. Look at the salaries of Asham, Powe, Dorsett and Pyatt. You need to pay 4th liners 600,000 a year, not a million plus. I know Montreal overpaid for Prust, but where did they finish? He is a great player. When he got injured in the series against Ottawa I knew Montreal was done.

I would trade Staal to Carolina for Skinner and a pick. He is going to go there eventually anyways to play with his three brothers and I think he has the type of injury that could seriously impact him.

And I still don't see a core up front. Stepan is legit, Hagelin is pretty good, but one dimensional. Brassard has been a bust, and while he played great after the trade, there is nothing to suggest that he can keep that up. (I think that was a terrible trade - fixing Tort's alienation of Gaborik.) Kreider is very close to being a bust and has one year to prove he can be more than a depth player.

Sather is just useless. Just like all of the other useless Execs in league who built rep on Oilers days. Kevin Lowe? Totally uselss. Remember Muckler? DO you know how painful it is to watch Chara and Hossa play when he just let them go.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Richards. I would try and make it work for one more year with him. His cap hit is not actually that bad.

guys who wont be back on your list: pyatt, powe.

no trading staal. if he is truly done, then he will just retire. defense is only going to get better from here with the youngins coming up.

core up front: Callahan, hagelin, brassard (he needed to come to ny), stepan. keider is all of 20, he has all the tools so lets see when he gets a coach that knows how to cultivate young talent. same for miller. so there you go - need a few spare parts if nash comes back to form and I am happy to go with that core group.

i remember muckler. unfortunately, he was a ranger coach. and milbury traded away more all stars then the rest of the league combined including chara, spezza, etc, etc.

not against keeping Richards one more year but that is all he gets and he more likely will be bought out this year anyway.

chris neil biggest cement head in the league. bar none.

lundqvist would be prescient to determine the team needs a break-up and bolt now.
