Question: if I put some rope instead of latticework for the vines, will it matter?

I'm thinking that rope might work though a net of some sort might be better for keeping the ivy anchored to it & the rope/twine in place. With the lattice, though, you get that wonderful geometric pattern of the lattice AND the ivy.
