Discussion about
A relative is going to sell his Coop to me and it will likely be a cash deal. I was just wondering: do we still need lawyers for the closing to take place? Granted that we both trust each other, are there documents are really require the presence of a lawyer? Thanks in advance.
Yes
I am not a lawyer but I would think the answer to this question is yes.
C0C0 who do you recommend?
You need lawyers. Save yourself the headache of litigation and get clear, even if it seems unnecessary.

Have you already checked with the Managing Agent for the coop?
Even if it is a relative you definitely need an attorney!
Specifically, each should have a lawyer who has nothing to do with the other.
I assume you've already passed the board, since you're talking about closing, so you must have a contract already in place. Who drew up the contact?
ESPECIALLY if this is a family deal, you need an attorney, in my opinion.
It's not primarily to draw up docs. It's to do due diligence.
You don't know enough about what could bite you in the foot about owning these shares (or else you wouldn't be posting this here).
If it turns out seller didn't know, or didn't reveal, something of importance that later hurt the buyer, you'd not only have a troubled real estate deal, you'd also probably have damaged an important relationship.
