Discussion about One Lincoln Plaza at 20 West 64th Street in Lincoln Square
Can people provide experience on internet speeds and consistency? I have Verizon DSL using their wifi/modem. Connecting via wifi on my mac and iphones. I get speeds less than less than 50 kB/s (400 kb/s) at times. Rarely get over 200 kB/s (1.6 Mb/s). Even though I pay for Enhanced (3-5 Mb/s). I'm thinking of switching to TWC. I'm wondering if others with Verizon DSL has similar or different experience? Also if folks with Time Warner Cable have better experience?

That is because DSL is freaking slow. Cable or Fios is the way to go.
I understand Verizon has stopped their FiOS rollout. I'd like to think it's because they have inside info that Google Fiber is coming to NY, and they can't compete. But I know that, they being welfare queens, they're just lobbying for a local govt. handout to continue the rollout.
Not Lincoln Plaza, and not DSL: I recently had similar speeds on TWC, and solved the problem with an escalated service call, well-handled by TWC. The solution was three-fold: a reset from their end upped the speed a bit; on my side, wiping clean my cache and browser history boosted the speed way more. The final solution, identified by the tech remotely, was that Google Drive sync was hogging massive upload bandwidth, effectively shutting down all downloading.
Assuming you've already power-cycled everything you can, I suggest you look for any automatic sync/backup [including Dropbox, Skydrive, Drive, whatever crap Apple gets you locked into, etc.], and see if settings allow you to cap upload/download speeds (Drive doesn't). Disable the auto download, if any, to see what happens. Then clear cache & history. Then escalate your service request if need be.
Got RCN recently. Been much happier with speed and consistency over Verizon DSL. My wife and I can both stream a show (on different computers) without any problems. Before, streaming 1 show was a challenge. Did I mention its 40% less than either Verizon DSL or TWC.

What was in there?
There are Verizon tools you can use to check whether you're getting the advertised speeds. I called Verizon and the techies were very helpful, talking me throw running the tools. The tools verified that my service was to slow, so they continued the investigaton. They found a problem on the Verizon server I was routed to, so they switched me to another server while they made repairs. No more problems.
However, FIOS is the way to go with Verizon. I had TWC before Verizon and dumped it because the techies were worse, the service was slow, and I was getting tons of offensive spam.
