Discussion about
I know this has been discussed but want to get more recent reviews regarding NYC movers. We are moving from a Lenox Hill one br/one bath to a 2 bed/2bath Carnegie Hill on the UES We are getting estimates from Moishe's, Flatrate and Padded Wagon - and are getting them to pack everything in the house. Any recent experiences with the movers mentioned aboved (or anyone else we should consider) and estimated costs will be helpful.
Have used Moishe's multiples times. Always do a great job, very responsive, reasonably priced.
We used Oz when we moved fall of 2012. We thought the price was reasonable and service was pretty good. Our point of comparison was another moving company we used 3 years prior (Name was something like TLC, can't remember exactly) and our experience with Oz was so much better in every aspect.
I've used Oz twice and had very different crews, but both were good. I wouldn't say they were excessively careful with things but both were efficient and reasonable.
Recently used FlatRate for a move. I had packed everything, except a couple large artworks, they mostly just moved things. No problems, even in pouring rain, and with a finicky co-op super. They came recommended to me by an associate who has used them 3 times.
I've used Flat Rate twice. They did a great job both times. (I hope that I don't have to use them again soon, because that means that my rent will have gone even higher.)
I have used Big John's Moving 3 times with no issues. Would use them again if needed.
They are located in Yorkville.

Used Moishes in 2010 - very happy w/that crew but all crews are different. I used OZ last month for a big move - and they were excellent. However - it is important to go w/the Flat Fee arrangement. Not the hourly arrangement. You will notice, they take furniture apart - wrap it in clear wraping - then put back together when you get where you're going (saves space in the truck they say) but all this taking apart & putting back together takes 'time' - and if you have flat rate - you are fine. Will be moving again in August - and will use OZ again.
