Nonsense. You can cross to Long Island for free on your choice of three bridges. Free crossings to the Bronx number in the ones. And from there it's free to pretty much all of New England. The rest of the mainland can be reached via the free Private Parker F. Dunn Memorial Bridge near Albany. What a bunch of crybabies.

You still need to siphon gas from another car every few hundred miles, though, or keep hotwiring a different car when you're running low.

Ahh so if I'm coming in from North NJ, all one must do is drive thru Albany.

Brilliant.

Or hitch a free ride at the GWB plaza from someone who needs +2 for carpool rate. Leave your food garbage in his car when you get off in NY, and steal something if the driver's distracted, even if it's just a box of tissues or an 8-track.

Reminded me of this ridiculous toll bridge we used to cross to our house in the poconos when I was a kid.
It was a 50 cent toll and when nobody was manning it, had a bucket out for you to drop the 50 cents.
I could never understand how that was legal, private ownership and right to collect a toll.

It was "something" ferry bridge.

You can take the Taconic up to the RVWB and then the Thruway back.
