Buying apartment that you currently rent??

Can anyone advise on this? Considering renting in a co-op (2 year lease only) but it sounds like the owners might not be using the apartment for a lot longer. What is the likelihood that they might sell down the road? Anyone ever hear of happy endings where the renter becomes the owner?

He has to want to sell but you can dangle the no broker fee argument in front of him if he is already inclined.
