Discussion about
Recommendations for (high end ok) 36" fridge (water/ice outside) 30" Stove Microwave for installation above stove Dishwasher (30")
Gas or electric? One oven or two?
Gas stove one oven
i agree gas stove one oven.
I dislike 30" stoves - I prefer 36".
I also dislike microwave above stove. I think it's really fugly. I prefer undercounter microwaves (but not microwave drawers - they're problematic) where the door drops down from the top like a stove door (as opposed to opening to the right side like most microwaves).
Dual-fuel might be better, if you have the electrical capacity.
Set minimum standards for range:
-- self-cleaning
-- "true" convection
-- sealed burners
-- high-power burner; simmer burner (some are clicky as they cycle, and will drive you crazy)
-- continuous grate
-- slide-in, without the vertical extension at the back, gives a cleaner look than freestanding, and shows off your backsplash better
-- maybe racetrack center burner for deglazing roasters and stuff
-- wok ring attachment so you can make smoked tea duck, if you're into that sort of thing. I don't judge.
-- kitchen porn: at least one induction burner
Hope you can vent OTR microhood to the outside ... in which case understand that it will underperform many standalone range hoods. But it will still protect the cabinets above, and kick into action automatically when heat justifies it.
I have no experience with OTR microhoods that also have convection, but it's nice to think that a second oven might be available to you (if they work in totally non-micro mode; not sure).
