I realise Ikea, Home Depot and Lowes are the cheaper entry level kitchens in New York for about $5000 for cabinets only. What brands would me more mid level brands that do modern glossy cabinets around 8,000-20,000 for cabinets only? Thanks
All of the cabinet companies have more modern lines. Woodmode and Plain and Fancy are two of the higher end "factory custom" cabinets. If you are looking for truly european modern, Leicht is a cheaper alternative to Poggenpohl, etc.. They have a showroom on the UWS.
I would go to a kitchen showroom that has a variety of brands for sale so you can compare them. There are numerous places in Manhattan, but my favorite is Kitchen Solutions up in the Bronx. It's a hike but the guys there have been doing this forever.
what brands Kitchen Solutions carry?
That is really useful.
Thanks!
Are there any good operators in Midtown or Brooklyn?
If you go to the UWS to check out Leicht you should also try Hannsem a few blocks away. There's also the Viola Park line from Henrybuilt in Soho which is modern but not glossy.
Based on recent experience, I highly recommend considering Tedd Wood: http://www.teddwood.com/ Their finish quality is excellent and their materials are high quality. The reps I met, including a regional manager, were well-trained and highly competent. I only call this cabinetry "mid-range" if the high end is something like Clive Christian. Otherwise, it is really great stuff in its own right. It is also in the price range you seek.
I used hanssem for a renovation I did in 2006. It was a gut job and I used them only for cabinets. They were attentive to detail and it turned out beautifully. I recommend them.
