Discussion about
Wondering if residents living in condos right next to McCarren park (such as 20 Bayard, 415 Leonard, Aurora, etc) find it noisy? Especially this time of the year, there are movie screenings, music fests, the pool plus it is so packed these days...

Seems like the thing to do would be to go visit the park and see.

These days the pool is not open. If you lived in 415 Leonard it might be an issue if you sat on your balcony. Otherwise, it is a 35 acre park and most of the stuff you mention takes place far from these buildings, which are across from the running track. The music festival is down by the water. Overall park is park: quiet and peaceful.

I lived in 50 Bayard for a while, and the noise was never a problem. Floodlights in the apartment at night was a different story, though....

The noise is not a problem whatsoever.

Don't worry - it's only a matter of time before a hipster/performance artist decides to "reinterpret" the cannonball, by shooting themselves from an actual cannon from one of the condo balconies into the pool.

All in the name of art, of course...

Does it get noisy (and rowdy) once the pool is open this season? Heard horror stories of pool since opening last year...And is the south east corner (Bayard and Leonard) safe? There is barely any life around there and just a bunch of barren old warehouses, and traveling south is dodgy approaching BQE...can anyone who lives in the neighborhood comment?

Jb you are way off. Bayard and Leonard sketchy? There is a line of popular bars stretching down Leonard. The area is incredibly gentrified and most buildings have 24 hour doormen. Pool is now open, so you see people walking around in bathing suits. The area you are describing is actually IMO one of the best. Close to the L. Close to greenpoint. A bit away from the increasing plastic ness of the waterfront. But you keep asking the same questions. Come by some night at 11. And don't be scared of the people running, they are joggers.

Ottawa: One of the best? Line of popular bars stretching down Leonard?? Name a few...I think you got it completely wrong pal! And close to the L?? It's a good 8+ mins walk! And yes, I've been there but not at night...not sure if I'd risk going there at night! Do you live there??

Not risk going there at night? Are you out of your mind? I live nearby and my very savvy teenage daughter's best friend lives in one of those condos, and they'd both howl with laughter at the thought of it being dangerous. It's manhattan ave. that has the bars, Ottawa was one block off.

There also looks to be a new development starting up at meeker and Leonard, where that huge antiques warehouse stood until very recently.

>my very savvy teenage daughter's best friend

Can you clarify, is your teenage daughter very savvvy, or is her friend very savvvy?

Yes Ar has it right. It is comical. Kind of like saying is it scary to go to Shake Shack at Madison Square Park. Even the ultra orthadox guys think it is ok to take their nine year old daughters for a walk around the track at 11 pm. You should really come here if you think of buying.

And yes, I actually meant Lorimer, which has Pete's candy store, night of joy, brooklyn star and if you keep going metropolitan which is educational on a Sunday afternoon. You are within a four minute radius of Beco, Shanty, Jimmy's Diner, Five Leave, Torst. All amazing spots. And then where AR is pointing out is full of all sorts of amazing places.

Any case, if you can't get off your ass to walk around try Astoria, wherever that is.

Buddy asked. More incredulous about the safety issue. Maybe HB you could take JB for a beer at Torst and try not to get beat up by all the 40 year old hipsters!

So your savvy daughter has friends who aren't very savvy? That's not very savvy of her.
