The 6/27/13 NY Teacher says that in June the DOE annouced that they will tear down the School of Co-operative Technical Education on East 96th Street to develop a luxury apartment tower. The DOE decided to not move forward with similar place on the West Side that would have affected PS 191 and 199. Supposedly protests are now starting about the E. 96 site. Anyone hear anything about this?
Mattonegroup, can you help?
Landlease "luxury" for serfs
People do need a building in which to luxuriate ...
jelj13; This article is from 6/17/13 and the DOE sure didn't waste anytime after they switched gears and gave up on the UWS.

The School of Cooperative Technical Education, from what I recall, is a place that students from all over the city can attend. This school provides an alternative for students who are not relating to Bloomberg's curriculum for a typical high school student. I would be surprised if their families could put up the same fight as the parents of the UWS elementary schools who are already living in the area.
Demolition and construction should be interesting with all the 2nd Ave. subway activities on the same city block and near the FDR exits/entrances. The school directly across the street is under renovation right now, although most of the activity is on the E. 95th St side. Add to that the construction under way of the new Trevor Day School building on E. 95th St and this area will really be a traffic nightmare.
On E. 91 St, they already demolished a school and built a new one next to the new Azure,
