Student looking for rentals in BK

I have been looking at 1BR/Studio apartment rentals in Prospect Hts, Crown Hts and Park slope but the prices are outrageous. Park slope is obviously a little on the expensive side, but even the other two are pretty pricey. In Prospect Hts/Crown Hts area, the rentals are about $1000 to $1500, and park slope starts from $1400! Is that normally what the prices are, or should I be able to bargain? Let me know guys! Thanks
