The landlord of this building is not trustworthy whatsoever. He might seem nice when you first move into the apartment and when you see him in person. But he's a TERRIBLE landlord. He never answers his phone or replies to your messages. When things are broken, it takes him months to fix and often not fixed properly. I am moving out of the apartment because he raised the rent, and I was able to find something better. He said it's fine, and I would have NO problem getting my deposit back. A week later, he is playing "hide-and-seek" and I cannot get in touch with him about getting my deposit back. This landlord named Islam (I think his real name is Isri Singh) refused to give me his full name and his address. Rent checks are always made out to North Oxford Corp. and he never picks up the checks on the 1st of the month, and usually it's on a random day at a random time. He often came without any notice (no text, no call), and sometimes even after 10pm. If you're looking into moving into this building and having him as a landlord, then good luck. You're going to need it when anything goes wrong in your apartment. You will most likely have to be stressed for weeks about a broken bath tub or no heat in the winter. You live in nyc, life is already stressful enough as is. DON'T let this landlord ruin your life! -MB [less]
The name and address listed on the lease is who you can list as a party in your Small Claims Court suit if you don't get your deposit back satisfactorily.
You can also search ACRIS for the named owner.
mariebayer,
Thank you for the heads up. I will take note of this, and will be advising others to steer clear.
is this a 3 family house?
It's taxed as a 3-family (Class 1) but is actually 4-family (Class 2).
Isri Singh was the former owner. He sold it to North Oxford Corp. in April 2011, then died in October 2012.
There's no mortgage, and signature on deed is indecipherable, so can't tell who North Oxford Corp. is.
