So, we recently wrote a reference letter for friends' coop purchase. We scanned a copy and e-mailed it 10 days ago and then put original in the mail. I am nowhere near a printer or a Fedex right now and would have to disrupt rare remote vacation to get to one, but I just received a panicked e-mail from said friends that our original letter has not arrived, and they are asking us to fedex a new original to their broker. I love said friends and would do anything for them if necessary, but is this really necessary? The lawyer in me wants to send terse e-mail saying "tell them scanned copy is sufficient" but I know they are in an uncharacteristically neurotic state over this process, so I am asking you, my trusted NYC real estate afficionados, do I need to find a printer and Fedex shop on my remote vacation or can I just send a "RELAX ALREADY" e-mail? These people are more than financially qualified. I've never seen them like this. Apilogize for any typos. I am on handheld and am pretty sure I have reached point of needing reading glasses.

1. Can they find another friend who is in states to send a letter? 2. Yes, if possible you should send an original in case they cannot get another letter. 3. DO NOT send relax already email. 4. Yes, they(boards) take this too seriously. 5. Ask the broker what the remedy could be with what they have given you are on vacation. 6. Your friends can submit what they have and hope that the managing agent will be ok with it while your letter is in mail on way to them. 7. Go enjoy your vacation

Sent a new original, but totally annoyed about it (not at friends, but rather at managing agent who appatentky would not accep their package without original despite fact that electronic signatures and scanned documents are given full force and effect in vast majority of business and legal proceedings). Does nobody else find this totally absurd? I don't mind inconvenience with a purpose, but I loathe complete waste of time, which is what this was in my mind. What purpose does original serve in this context? Won't original be copied for multiple board members such that decisionmakers will not even see or touch the fine stationery that one might use? Definite way to annoy someone is to inconvenience them for something that makes no sense. Can any managing agent or coop board member enlighten me?

Whatever happened with this situation with your friends? Assume after you sent the new original that it all worked out for your friends? What neighborhood was this co-op in?

I didn't say it was my business. Maybe you can alert your friend to this thread and your friend could let us know?
