Discussion about
We are replacing the old casement windows of our tudor style townhouse. The contractor recommends Andersen series A and Marvin casement windows, with Marvin being the more expensive option. We have about 12 windows to replace, therefore the cost, in addition to quality, are very important factors. I'm leaning towards Andersen because of the lower cost. Anyone has feedback with these windows? or any other brand they'd suggest? Also how much would these windows typically cost(12)? Thanks!
Herr hamster? What say you.
Marvin has different product lines. Which are you being quoted?
I went with Marvin Ultimate casements in a recent gut, mostly because I wanted as little exterior maintenance as possible. That particular line has thick aluminum cladding on the outside with a baked-on finish. With all the trimmings (366 glass, argon, square sticking, nickel hardware, etc.) they came to about $1200 each (roughly 36x60).
They're awesome -- the apartment is completely silent when they're closed, they're easy to operate, and they look great.
Lots of window debates on gardenweb if you search there.
And at least you aren't replacing doors... that's where you can really spend some money.
I have actually heard the marvin's are technically a superior window however there is also the issue of customer service. I am told that Anderson has amazing customer service and that is something to consider. I checked out both and found the andersons to be a better looking window actually but in this case it was for an old house, not our apartment in the city.
Hey Guywithcat, I heard you bought a place. Congrats!
