Discussion about
We are about to close on a pre-war apartment which is in great condition, but we are thinking of having the walls skimcoated to make the paint look smoother and repair any cracks. Can anyone recommend someone, and what would a 800 square foot apartment cost to skimcoat? Thanks. E

If it's a prewar building, the super probably either does the skimcoating or can refer you to someone who will. Prices can be extremely variable, so try to see a sample of work they've done before and find out what they've charged for that.

be careful -- skim coating can cause the delamination of plaster -- please consider using pink plasterweld on the ceilings -- Pink -- not the blue!

I have a great guy. Let me know if you want his name..he has done almost all my rentals and I've used him in my home several times. I agree also with the above poster; you need to go with someone who will not ruin the integrity of the underlying plaster.

In response to Ali r:

I wouldn't trust what the super says. My experience with the super in my pre-war bldg has always been negative. His idea of quality work does not match my concept of 'well done.' Definitely do your own research.
