Discussion about
Does anyone have an opinion on Quantapanel? Much less expensive than City Quiet or Citiproof. The website (www.quantapanel.com) seems focused mainly on energy savings, but no mention of sound reduction. Anyone have any experience with this company?
These are insulating windows that by design have little to do with sound reduction -- they go on the outside of your windows. And I never heard of them. If your goal is sound reduction this is not the way to go.
Suddenly "guy"withcat is an expert in windows. Maybe he could solve c0lumbiac0unty's problem of the window in the shower.
Actually, they have a product that also goes inside of window. Someone in my building has them, but lives on the quieter side of the building so she is unable to give an opinion on the noise reduction aspect of the product
Actually, Guywithcat seems to know quite a bit about apartment purchasing and renovations. Fieldchester, I'm not sure what you are an expert in other than annoying people and showing how pitiful your life is that you dedicate so much energy to provoking people on this message board.
If you're looking for sound reduction, go with Citiproof. They have thicknesses of glass and spacing recommendation to address noise issues. I found it was well worth the money as they gave me the right solution and were very professional. They gave me a list of references, some of whom had been neighbors in another building. I contacted them as I knew the noise issues there. They were all happy with the soundproofing.
As an aside, I used the space between their window and the outside window as a mini-green house. My window sills were deep enough for that.
If you are interested in noise reduction and energy savings, the Quantapanel 600 Series -- which installs on the interior -- is a wise solution. The company does produce a product that installs on the exterior, but this is not recommended for noise reduction. The Quantapanel solution is less expensive because it does not utilize laminated glass to achieve the sound reduction. The Quantapanel product utilizes a coated glass and highly engineered and patented frame system. The Quantapanel 600 window system has been used in buildings in New York City and Philadelphia.
