Potential tenants should be careful with apt 18-S. The landlord cut a few corners on the renovations so all three toilets malfunction with annoying frequency, cupboard doors don't open properly, the floor where the balcony was enclosed wasn't insulated properly and gets very cold in winter etc etc. Minor annoyances, but indicative of his attitude. The landlord violated the lease both with surprise inspections and by withholding our security deposit long past the end of the lease. When it was returned he had kept a significant percentage to cover things, like cleaning the carpet, which would be considered standard after a multi-year lease. We are excellent tenants, in six rentals spanning more than twelve years before now we have never lost even a single cent of our security deposit. Be warned that in our experience if the landlord has the opportunity to take your money, he will. [less]
You are blameless for the damaged carpeting and frequently malfunctioning toilet?
Your complaints are normal for most rentals in the city, most rental agreements require you to put the apartment back in the same condition you were given it minus normal wear and tear but that means even if the carpets are worn you still need to clean them and if you created a wear spot on the carpet by not using a chair mat you would have to replace the carpet etc. Consider your self lucky you did not have this problem in the past.
fieldschester - the carpet was not damaged, or repaired, it was cleaned. and yes, definitely blameless for malfunctioning toilets, just cheap product. aalsberg - minus normal wear and tear is key. could be luck that no one else has ever charged us, could be that this guy is just greedy.
i know my opinion, it's up to others to form theirs now that they have the facts.
Thanks for giving us the address of this SCUMBAG !!
