Discussion about
We did an apartment combination. We already have the Alt-2 permit. Do these require plumbing inspection from the DOB? 1. Removed 2nd kitchen and capped the gas/water. 2. Changed the tub, vanity, toilet in the 2nd bathroom. Thanks so much
What does your architect say?
Did your plumber file an LAA?
I'm actually supposed to speak with my architect on Monday.
I'm concerned because I never knew about this and the job is essentially done. If we require a plumbing inspection, then I'm worried they are now going to have to open up walls to inspect the how the kitchen gas/pipes were capped and how the bathroom fixtures were put it.
Primer am I overreacting? I assumed that the contractor filed the permit, but what if he didn't? The whole apartment looks so great and I thought we were one step away from the letter of completion...
midtowncombo:
You can research on the DOB website. Click on the permits section of the Building info.
Sounds like you aren't changing any pipe locations or lengths outside of the wall, so it's just cosmetic in nature. You ought to be fine.
Yes, you will need plumbing sign-off, however it can be done by your plumber. When you hire the contractor , make sure he has a licensed plumber who will sign off the plumbing inspection. This is very normal, no need to worry, your architect probably will explain this to you.
Midtowncombo,
There is a good chance that the plumber does not need an inspection and can sign off himself. If you need an inspection the chances are great that the inspector will not show and the plumber then can sign off.
The worst case is the GC will have to open up he wall and redo his work
If you want me to find out if it was filed and what type just email me at primerenovations@mac.com
Update: you guys were correct as usual.
The job does require a plumbing inspection, and according to my GC, the plumber himself can sign off. My concern that they'd have to open up the wall appears unfounded. There have been a few mishaps during this apartment combination, but it appears the GC is on top of this.
The last step is getting the final letter of completion from DOB. Hopefully, it's straightforward. Thanks to all for the advice.
Just to clarify,
Plumbers can sign off on some permits, others require an inspection. Most of the time the inspector does not come and then the plumber can sign off. If the inspector comes and the walls are closed you would have to open them.
