Discussion about
why can't they leave the old SE site alone! it was so much more compact, easy to use and simple. ARGH.
Amen
Yeah, well it doesn't work for me at all. I'm using Safari 4 on an older computer and I can't use the sales or rental search function. Can't pull down the menus on the options, the sort order doesn't work, it's basically useless to me. It's been that way since the first SE revamp.
So I've been using Elliman and the NYTimes to search sales, it works fine with my antiquated Safari. It's a shame, Streeteasy was really helpful in finding our last place.
Lousy. All we see are the expensive multi-million dollar properties on the front page. So much nicer when "randomly selected" featured properties in different price ranges were printed on the front page of the website. Now Zillow appears to be putting only the expensive properties on the front page. All their featured properties appear to be for people with millions of dollars or have the ability to get loans for high end properties. Even Open Houses on the front page show only the expensive properties on the front page.
Of course, you got to click away and hope you find what you require, not in simple step(s) but multi-steps.
Disgraceful and unhelpful to the general populace.
I'll give it the thumbs up. It does feel like you are able to quickly click to find the relevant information you are looking for such as the discussions. The prior iteration required extensive vertical scrolling so definitely a marked improvement.
I'm sorry that needsadvice needsanewcomputer.
I'm sorry that rlr doesn't appear to realize that these "featured properties" are what helps pay for the site. You can't blame Zillow too hard for the advertisers choosing to feature more expensive properties where the commissions presumably enable them to splurge a few dollars on a featured listing.
Mind you, I do feel that having roughly 50% of the main screen occupied by what are essentially commercials is a bit much but as mentioned above you can easily navigate to where you need to go.
I remain unimpressed that you can't see a combined view of current and prior sales on a particular buildings. When assessing the value of a listing the first assessment is to look at recent comparable sales in the building. The old version did this very effectively.
Oxy,
I do realize they are getting revenues with all the big, expensive listings in the front page. Just mourn the past where it seemed the lower end listings would be thrown in (apparently randomly with expensive listings) in the front page. Previously easy to note the lower end properties instead of more clicking and searching now.
It's a bit better than the absolutely awful last one.
who moved my cheese?
I've been playing with this design for the past few hours. It's not bad. Much more intuitive than the last re-design. It's not that much of a departure from the old design.
While I too lament the loss of the old format this new one is a major improvement over the horrendous first redesign which was clearly an epic miscalculation.
I like how they got rid of the c0lumbiac0unty.
why?
Damn you Streeteasy, you gave me false hope.
