Discussion about
I know Zillow has made the site free but I was far happier paying my $10 a month and getting the quality that Streeteasy used to have. The new site is not user friendly nor functional. I can no longer see apts in full view on my iPAD. And don't get me started on the app....it doesn't work and it won't work holding the iPAD in a horizontal position. I changed my settings for searches and the... [more]

Do websites every really get better when the original founders cash out and sell to corporate entities?

I can't say I was thinking it would improve but would have expected Zillow to maintain the same quality. I guess I was mistaken. Would be nice if a new group of techies started a website to rival and compete with this version of Streeteasy.

All you need to do is start up a consortium and buy Zillow out.
The glory of the streeteasy website will be all yours.

What is up with the Log-in issues. I now find if you go to another page it logs out. Then when logged in it still says to register to unlock when in fact am still logged in. Just a glitch I hope.

How do all of you get to "discussions?"
I have to google "streeteasy talk" to get to the page. There is no link to get here from the home page.

I also am unable to view any building's historic sales and rental information including when logged in.
Is this something unique to me, or has the effort by the real estate powers that be, aided by zillow finally succeeded in destroying the common citizen's ability to do their own comp work?

truthskr10 - somehow if you are on a mobile device you can only get on by doing the "streeteasy talk" thing. From a laptop or desktop, go to Resources, then to discussions. Same may hold true for rental/sales info

PH41, I have no tab anywhere that says "resources."

Ive also noticed the "number of saved users" when on a particular unit's page is gone as well.
This was critical in telling you how much interest there was in a unit.

Congratulations Zillow on destroying the phenomenal product that used to be streeteasy.

Its like the Wilpons own this site now.

The "This sale has been saved by xx users" is to the right of the photos, above the box for maintenance, etc.

"Resources" is at the top, to the right of Sales and Rentals. It may not show on the phone app, which doesn't have room for much.

What about this new nonsense? The posted question goes on the bottom and the answers are posted on top in current to older order. You have to scroll and scroll and scroll to find out what the question is about. 25 years in data base design and never saw anything like this!

Can someone from Streeteasy comment as to why the discussion has been moved from newest to oldest? We want it reversed to the way it was..........from oldest to newest.

I agree with Edwinnyc, why don't we also just read right to left, drive on the other side of the road, walk down the up escalator, have the ladies room sign switched with the mens room sign, lower the minimum wage, make the toilet flush clockwise, set your clocks back in the Spring, and make it faster to fly west than east.

Perfect example of "fixing" what isn't broken. Given how the new design of the site results in the eye wandering all over the place and locating the sought after info needlessly difficult most of the time, I'd think the website designers would be focused on a more intuitive site that is fun and not a struggle to use. Instead, some genius decides to flip around the order of discussion questions and answers so now it is like jeopardy where you get the answer first. I've given it time. I can honestly say there is nothing that has been improved on the site from a user perspective since the sale to Zillow. I have no horse in this race. I'm just one of the earliest users and tried to offer substantive contributions for years. The mess that is being made of the "rebranded" site has effectively driven me away except for when I need to check something in the most utilitarian sense. It baffles me that no one at the company realizes what a disaster this is and how much better the site could be.

Thank you NWT. But I just dont have that on my screen.
A the top it says "Streeteasy"
Top left there is a drop box tab.
When you click on it, first line is a search box.
2nd line is "sales"
3rd line is "rentals"
4th line is login (or your logon email address if signed in)

thats it!

I did find the saved users, thank you NWT.

Hi All - We've heard your feedback loud and clear! We will be reverting the changes to the discussion board and it should be back to normal by tomorrow morning. We truly appreciate all your feedback and hope we can continue to successfully collaborate with our users.

Thanks SE Support. While making minor adjustments, any chance we can get NWT ungreyed? I obviously love the site and have zero issues with new version; only reason I want NWT back in black is so that he can start new discussions if there is something to which he wants to draw our attention. No idea what he does in the real world, but his insight regarding NYC real estate seems to be uniformly valued by users old and new. Maybe just remove whatever discussion got him placed in the penalty box?

Thank you SE, I dont know what you did that now finally allows me a new page with "resources" at the top but thank you.

I 2nd NYC Novice on NWT's status.
Its downright absurd.
NWT is by far the greatest asset this site has to both regulars and newbies for information.
In fact you guys should probably pay NWT.

I would also ungrey NWT.
But I caution on paying. There used to be a frequent poster here who started to increase the frequency of her posts in order to get paid because she needed the money (pre-lawsuit settlement), eventually leaving to a competitive real estate site that ultimately she couldn't handle, resulting in a significant breakdown, followed by a meltdown, and then later an outright explosion that came just before her complete implosion. I don't even remember this person's name - she herself was entirely insignificant by all accounts - but not all of us like to see this outright destruction of humanity, no matter who it is. Again, I don't remember who it was, after the breakdown, meltdown, explosion and implosion, she was deleted. Is the money really worth all that, no matter how desperate the person is to contribute even the slightest smidgeon of earnings to your family?

I'm worried about NYCMatt. Is he OK? Did he get married and forget all of us who appreciate his posts? He seemed to intelligent to be wasting his time on these posts, but he was always the "...light at the end of the tunnel." Boo Hoo.

I'm concerned about spinnaker. He hasn't been heard from in so long. Was he boiled alive in a itch's cauldron in an unglamorous corner of East Hampton?

Hey @truthskr10 - StreetEasy.com is a responsive site. It intentionally alters the layout to "fit" smaller screen sizes. This means that when you manually resize your browser window your view will change. When resized to a smaller browsing experience, the header will automatically truncate to a "light" view. You are basically navigating the website as if you were browsing from a mobile device like a tablet or cell phone. If you want tot see the "regular" view, just enlarge your browser window on your laptop/desktop.

Oh wow, I see now.
Yes I m using an old desktop during the day.

I guess every time I had trouble with the site, my screen size was probably at a zoom other than 100%.

Thank you for the explanation SE.

I would like the following features:
1) A category for land-lease units.
2) In the app, the deposit % is not shown.
3) I often calculate my own size or square footage for an apartment. That way I can see how much they charge per square foot. I also can see if the maintenance is astronomical or not per foot. Can this be implemented?
4) If I put a comment in the listing of the saved folder that comment doesn't appear in my open house planner section.
5) The whole view in the saved folders is clumsy. I can't see a lot of the details or comments unless I click on the actual listing. I would love the option at least of creating a custom view where I choose the headers at the top and the listings flow.
