Experienced and reasonably priced NYC architect

I am closing on a 2 BR Carnegie Hill apartment which needs renovation. Have spoken with two architects who are experienced with prewar traditional renovation, but are priced very high (18-20% of construction cost. I have done numerous renovations of my Princeton area home and find these fees excessive. While I realize the process in NYC is unique and more labor intense, the inflexibility of these architects to acknowledge the relative straightforward nature of this project and therefore lower cost has been frustrating. I have seen web posts indicating both fixed fee and lower % (12-15) fee providers in the market. Would be interested in recommendations/suggestions.
