Prewar electrical?

Hi there - just bought a prewar 1bdm. Doing a gut reno of kitchen and bathroom. How much should it cost to rewire the whole apartment? Seeing a variety of estimates... AND if we only update the panel and electric in the kitchen and bath, is the rest super unsafe? Would that be substantially cheaper? I've been told that there are likely cloth-covered wires there - which sounds crazy flammable but is apparently very common in older buildings... Any thoughts would be very appreciated - thanks!
