209 grand st scam!

My roommate and I saw and applied for a beautiful apartment on Grand st. We each paid a $130 fee, gave the lady all our information. Offered to move in 15 days early, offered to pay a few months in advanced. It took over a week to hear back, and said said we didn't get it, that it was rented to someone else. However, it is still on the market and she is still showing it probably doing it to other people. How do I make sure she other don't get scammed!??
