Combining Apts - Cable bill/service?

Has anyone had experience with this? I'm no expert, but it's my understanding that each apt in my building is already wired with a cable connection. All Verizon has to do is "activate" that line and install a set top box / router etc and it's on. So if I already have service at my current apt, is there any way to connect the next door's cable to my service and bill also? I understand how this can be ridiculous sounding since people could then just have 1 account with 2 separate apts. I called Verizon and the lady said the only option is to have the current cable wire extended all the way to the new apartment, which I think is absurd. Thanks
