I think everyone needs to know a few things before they consider moving into this building: 1. It is extremely noisy, all the time. Houston has a lot of ambulances, police sirens and fire trucks. Right now, I hear a police car screaming its horns as it drives down Houston towards the East River. You will hear it all day and all night. Bring your ear plugs. Plus, everyone slams their door in this building. It is something with the construction of the doors, but they have no resistance and are very heavy, so they slam shut with great force. That will wake you up all the time. 2. It says "no smoking," but I smell cigarette, bong and joint smoke all the time. They don't enforce the no smoking rule, and it constantly stinks. Sometimes the smoke will just seep into your apartment and take over. It is really bad. 3. Everyone who moved into this building got at least 2 months free rent. That means that they will all be leaving at the end of their lease, so make sure you negotiate for at least 2 free months if not more when you move into this building. 4 . There is no doorman after 8PM, so you will have a hard time getting your packages and your deliveries... The electronic intercom system is very fragile and does not work well. Plus, they lock your stuff overnight in this dusty, hot room in the basement, so if you are getting anything at all fragile delivered (like wine bottles or food) it might get totally ruined. 5. The roof is horrible. They said there would be barbeques, but they never installed them. It is always messy up there from partiers. Plus, the wifi does not work at all. 6. The management of the building are very weird and rude. They don't seem to care about the tenants, and the person who is in charge of handling tenant issues is totally wooden and bizarre in her messages to people. It just comes across as extremely unfriendly. 7. This building is priced about 20% above market if you compare it to the other buildings nearby. Make sure you negotiate at least 2 free months to even it out. 8. If you decide to move here, note that it is extremely diffiicult to get your stuff into the building. You have to go through a side door, down a long flight of stairs into the basement, around a bunch of corners, and then into a small elevator. If you are hiring movers, you will definitely have to pay a lot extra for this incovenience. 9. They are putting a late night party place into the cellar called "Mars Bar" which will probably lead to a lot of stinky mess, puking outside the building and loud noise. It is really going to make this building horrible. 10. I really regret moving into this building and cannot wait to leave. It was a terrible 13 months so far. Bye for now! and good luck! [less]
