I live in Gateway Plaza in Battery Park City - 395 South End Ave to be precise. In the past year, I had multiple, flowing sewage leaks from the unit above, through the concrete, and into my bathroom, right over the toilet. After a few months of no leaks, called the management and had the popcorn and paint fixed three weeks ago. (Gagged on the fumes but that's another story). Another flowing leak last week! In two places, and bigger than the previous leaks. I'm the kind who refuses to touch anything in the subway. If you can relate to that you can imagine the trauma of having sewage raining down on you. A strongly worded email to the management got me back: "We will make necessary repairs to your apartment. Leaks unfortunately do happen in a high rise building of this size." The "repairs" offered are to paint over the stains again. Not a word about getting to the root of the problem, 4 leaks in less than a year. Sewage leak - once I can understand it's an accident. Maybe twice. But 4 times (not counting expanding and shrinking wet patches that don’t drip)? I am outraged, needless to say, and at the end of my patience, but I'm trying to get a sense of how common this really is, while I figure out what next. If you have ideas what next - please share!
