Discussion about
Can anyone tell me what the differences are between Roth, Carpenter and Candela? These are the names that seem to be most mentioned in pre-war building descriptions. Are they all quite similar? What should I expect from each architect in terms of layout, building architecture, scale, and location? Are there any differences in prices paid for one architect vs. another? Is one more "mass market"?

Nerve: The pictures and list of addresses were helpful, but I didn't see the answers to any of my questions. Do you have any additional insight that you can share?

This doesn't answer your main questions, but if you're considering a Candela building. here's one thing I was told when I looked at apartments in a few Candela coops on the Upper West Side. Because of Landmarking, no thru the wall A/C allowed. Has to be in the window. If thru the wall is important to you, you should ask up front if it can be done.
