Discussion about
my landlord offered to buy me out of my apartment. Not all the units in my building are rent stabilized. My landlord asked that I do not communicate with anyone else about our negotiations. However, I don't really trust my landlord. Would it be to my advantage in any way if I work with the other tenants?
No. Because you collectively will start negotiating with your landlord at a point that is 'fair' to you and the other tenants. And from that point, you'll end up at f*ed, because there is nowhere to go but down, in the name of consensus.
Audain, you need to speak with an attorney. Search for a name on this discussion board, start calling them and ask each one what they think.
I've been around the block a few times and this is what I would do; and I would hire the lawyer who seemed best for me. For starters, you need to make sure the landlord doesn't screw you by not paying the agreed-upon amount.
Check the firm at http://www.jacklesterlaw.com that represented the tenants at 220 CPS. Then tenants who jointly held out got a lot more than the ones the jumped early.
Aaron, are you on drugs?
What neighborhood is this in?
>Subsequently, she discovered that she was the only one who received a good deal (6 to 8 times as much as the others). The tenants should have banded together.
Which may have only been possible because the owner was able to under pay the other tenants.
Neither your co-tenants nor your landlord are your friends.
To maximize your gain at the expense of others, think, what massive illegalities would c0lumbiac0unty have done to prepare myself for this point? what dishonest actions would w67thstreet do at this point, how would aboutready abuse all facets of the the law at this stage, and what would inonada be searching for on ehow like a lemming in this situation in order to maximize a windfall at the expense of others?
