The Garnett was a great place to live for the price (as of 2014 Jan - 2015 Jan). Great doormen, helpful supers, etc. However beware of two things: 1) Management steals portions of security deposits. They are currently passing on routine maintenance costs onto renters whose leases are ending. Things like "paint touch ups" are costing people $250, which they are withholding from security deposits.... [more]

The Garnett was a great place to live for the price (as of 2014 Jan - 2015 Jan). Great doormen, helpful supers, etc. However beware of two things: 1) Management steals portions of security deposits. They are currently passing on routine maintenance costs onto renters whose leases are ending. Things like "paint touch ups" are costing people $250, which they are withholding from security deposits. This is illegal according to the NY Attorney General's office, as security deposits are only to be use in extraordinary cases that go beyond normal wear and tear. Some renters are reaching out to the NY Attorney General's office and BBB about this, but I wanted to warn people considering moving to the Garnett. 2) The construction is shoddy - shortcuts taken every step of the way. Door handles falling off, drawers not working, etc. Double check everything before you move here. That being said, this is a good place for 20-25 age range given the cost and location. [less]
