So, I am leaving New York and my apt 5 months early. I have however already paid for the full year of my lease upfront because I am international. Obviously I would like / need to get the remaining rent back - and so need to find someone to take my place. I know that a lease take over is the normal route in this situation however, does it make it more complicated that my lease was paid in advance?... [more]
So, I am leaving New York and my apt 5 months early. I have however already paid for the full year of my lease upfront because I am international. Obviously I would like / need to get the remaining rent back - and so need to find someone to take my place. I know that a lease take over is the normal route in this situation however, does it make it more complicated that my lease was paid in advance? Will the new tenant need to be able to pay the 6 months + security in advance? What should I do? The good thing is that it is a great apartment and a good price (relatively!). The only catch about the apartment (that makes it such a good deal) (imo) is that the shower is in the kitchen... this didn't bother me at all, because what the apt lacks in terms of a separate bathroow, it makes up for in space, gorgeous high ceilings and a fireplace. Anyway, how screwed am I? What should I do? Please and thank you! [less]
I assume from your name that this apartment is in C0lumbia C0unty? In which neighborhood is this apartment with the window in the shower?
Sorry, I meant to say shower in the kitchen.
By the way, where is the toilet?
Sorry for all the questions: when you say leaving NY / the U.S., are you talking like to Canada or England where we have more common trade, or places like The Republic of Mauritius? http://streeteasy.com/talk/discussion/33006-f-coops
I think you are in the airbnb business now.
speak to your landlord. I am a broker and can always get your apt rented for you!

If AirBnB weren't allowed, and it were enforced, apartments might be less affordable, and that might drive down rents and RE costs.
