Discussion about
What can a co-op board/management company do to be proactive in combatting this problem? I live in a large co-op and the response of the building seems to be mainly reactive and somewhat lukewarm. I would like more to be done to prevent illegal short-term letting in my building. It is not a huge problem, by any means, but it does go on.

In my condo, we had a lot of problems with illegal sublets. Simple solution: First we asked everyone for a list of names of people residing in the apartment. No one was allowed into the building unless they were on this list or were visiting the resident, who had to be home. If a rental was approved by the Board, the doorman was sent a notice. Not on the rental list = no admission to the building. So, if a person was "visiting" for an extended period of time, they could not be admitted if the owner was not home.

So you have to hang around at home twice a week, waiting for the Girl to arrive?
