Kitchen sink next to range - a big NO NO

What is with these kitchen renovations with no counter space between the sink and the cooking surface? This leaves no space to prep or stage food next to the stove and is dangerous. Just a drop of water in hot oil can spatter it all over, causing serious burns. I can hardly believe it is legal. The sad part is that in most of these renovations there is a dishwasher on the other side of the sink that could easily have been placed between the sink and stove providing counter space and a buffer zone for inadvertent splashes. When I see this in a listed property, I immediately factor in a $25K reduction in price to cover the cost, time and inconvenience of correcting the problem.
