Discussion about
We are putting a washer and ventless dryer in our condo. Washer/dryers are permitted. The Management wants a drawing of how the plumbing will be. Any suggestions as to someone we can hire to do this at a reasonable price? Also, I don't believe that we need any kind of permit from the buildings department for such work. Is that correct? Thanks.
Keep in mind if you are getting a ventless dryer that if it is in a closet, you need to keep the door open when you use it. They are subject to a lot of mildew and mold.
Wishstar, I have a ventless Miele dryer in a closet. I leave the door open when I use it and usually afterwards. But I have not heard that they are subject to mildew and mold. Can you explain? Front-loading washers, on the other hand, are definitely subject to mold if they are closed before drying out.
sp21, it has something to do with the method by which it dries. Instead of warm air, it uses what can best be described as an "extraction" method, whereby the water is pulled from the clothing either into the receptacle in the machine or into a hose ( usually into the same outlet as your washer hose. Also, since water is involved in the drying process, it tends to cause very high humidity which can lead to mold. I have read some articles about it. I will find one and post it,

Wishstar, thank you. Interesting about the dryers and mold. I have high ceilings and I built a few shelves above the stacked W/D (done through Creative Closets). Since I have about 5' of space above the W/D, I considered building a storage shelf above the W/D with a separate door (and closing off the W/D closet), but I suspect that it would lead to less air circulation, more risk of mold and it did not seem ideal to have things stored above a dryer. Thanks again!
