Discussion about
I'm taking over my neighbor's apartment and doing a combination in my co-op. After calling around and speaking with insurance brokers I've determined that the only two carriers who don't seem to care about this or the renovations are Allstate and Chubb. There's no question Chubb is a premium carrier, and the yearly premium is around $800 more for roughly equivalent coverage limits. The question of course is whether Chubb is worth the extra. Any insights would be appreciated.

Chubb is great - had an antique chandelier fall down - they just asked for an electrician opinion as to what happened - paid out enough for my husband and me to take a trip to Milan to look for a replacement ( which we actually found in NY).

Also just make sure you're paying for replacement, not depreciated value of contents - huge difference.

Chubb is definitely worth the extra premium for homeowner's insurance. My dad had a leak from upstairs that caused damage to the floors through his entire apartment. Chubb paid $$$$$ for their move, hotel stay, total gut (had to remove EVERYTHING, including their kitchen, all built-ins, etc. in order to replace the floors properly)... No questions asked.

When I was looking for insurance recos the 2 that kept being referred were Chubb and Travellers. For same coverage Chubb was more than double so went with Travelers. I was told that both were equal regarding claims, service etc. Just that Chubb tended to insure a high clientele (more expensive claims) therefore that was reflected in premium.

Thanks for the input above. Sounds like people have experienced the expected great Chubb service. Has anybody had experiences (good/bad) with Allstate?

When 9/11 happened, my building was a few blocks from ground zero. Allstate reimbursed me for all damages, no requests for invoices. I also, use Allstate for a house of mine on the island; and I'm satisfied; had a roof leak and was given money for damages for inside the house. For my apartment, I pay about $550 a year.
