Discussion about
I just rented a condo (for 1 year) in downtown Manhattan and I am wondering if I can invite a roommate to live with me. Although I am the only one named on the condo lease, I think New York State has the "Roommate Law" (235 f) that would permit me to bring a roommate with me. The only thing I need to do is to notify my landlord with 30 days. Is that correct? Thanks everyone.

good question, in a coop there is the potential for the board to block a subtenant though you could challenge them in court . In a condo, since you are the primary tenant I think they cannot compel you not to have a roommate. However, I recommend being careful, since you would be liable for any damage and/or unpaid rent.

You just rented the place and didn't list another tenant or occupant on the lease?
