Discussion about
Hello I am looking at a number of potential properties in Brooklyn NY. Regarding the square footage given for the unit in an apartment building or co-op: - Is this figure net or gross. ? In other words, does it include shared/public areas such as lobbies, stairwells, storage etc. (Gross) or is it the actual floor space of the living unit (Net) If its the net area- is there any way to clarify the gross area ? (or vice versa) Perhaps an accepted ratio ? Thanks very much, Saul L.

There are at least 3 different ways to report square footage in common use. Doug Heddings did a great video about this, Google it and you'll find it. Whatever the ad says, you can assume the usable square footage is less by X number of feet.
