Discussion about
I am looking to purchase a coop and see that many say pets on a case by case basis. I have heard that some buildings have "pet interviews" for perspective buyers. My question is, if they didn't like my dog, would the board flat our reject me as a buyer? Would they reject my dog, but give me the green light for the sale (and tell me my dog would not be welcome)? How does this work?

It depends on the board--check with the building's managing agent for specifics.

In our co-op we do request that prospective shareholders/subtenants bring their dog(s) to the interview. We really just want to be sure the dog is ok around people, and isn't prone to freaking out, as there are many small children living in our building. General rule of thumb, though, is that by the time you've gotten to the interview stage (ie the board has already pored through your paperwork and found you financially suitable) you're probably going to be accepted unless you (or the dog) bite someone, start swinging from a chandelier, or skitter around peeing in the corners before taking a giant dump in the middle of the room.

Sounds like your co-op has high standards, Bburg's ilk.
