Discussion about
I am renting an apartment at 354 State Street, a building recently bought by Westminster City Living. 11 days ago my refrigerator broke and as of today it has not been repaired or replaced. I'm told it will be fixed next Monday, which will be a full 15 days after it broke. The building manager said they "might" be willing to pay for my ruined groceries, but seems not committal about paying for all the extra costs incurred to me by not having a working fridge. Do not rent from this company. They are very lax about correcting maintenance issues and do not take ownership for their failures.

You'd think a landlord would keep a $200 make-do refrigerator on hand, just to cover the tenant while the landlord scours the landlord-bulk-appliance outlets for a new refrigator. But no.

Or take my favorite apartment of the month: http://streeteasy.com/building/136-east-56-street-new_york/14e. Look closely. For $7000 per month, every single fixture/fitting/outlet/cupboard/surface is crap. Those ceiling lights in the kitchen are $10 apiece at Home Depot. $84,000 per year to get the feel of a double-wide in Mississippi.
